The therapeutic section of the Gyula Castle Spa was opened for the general public desiring recovery in August 1968. Still in the same year, the water of thermal well No.1 was declared medicinal water, which made it possible that the Ministry of Health could rank it among the medicinal baths providing national duties in 1971.
In 2002, within the frame of the Széchenyi Plan, our section was rebuilt totally. Since then it has been working with 27 employees in the present structure.
Rheumatologist dr. Ágnes Zahorán is the head of the therapeutic section, who stands at the patients’ service in the consulting room of the Castle Spa in the following consulting hours:Monday - Friday: 8.00-14.00.
For a medical examination, please bring along your general practitioner’s referral, your social security card and your medical examination reports. We draw up the treatment schedule of our patients based on the results of the former examinations and the specialist’s examination. The shortest period of a rehabilitative bath treatment is 6 treating days.
Patients, for whom the medical treatments have been prescribed already at their home, can check in at the dispatcher of the therapeutic section directly. However, during the whole period of their bath therapy, should it prove necessary, they can call on the consultation of the physician at the spa. In our therapeutic section, two dispatchers work on preparing a flexible treatment timing that is the most ideal for our patients. We are proud of the fact that we are able to arrange treatment appointments also for the day of arrival even in the busiest summer periods.

Contraindications of bath treatments
A rehabilitative treating programme arranged cautiously can produce a spectacular improvement already after 6-8 treating days. Treatments are really effective if we take into consideration both the primary and the concomitant illnesses of the patient; consequently, we arrange a tailor made physiotherapeutic programme. In our therapeutic section all technical and personal conditions are available for this. However, it is also important that our patient, in their own interest, should comply with our instructions, i.e., bathing time, degrees of temperature and proper order of treatment.
There are some illnesses and disorders, in case of which the treatments may do more damages than benefits, since they may affect adversely the function of organs with vital importance, result in dragged on healing, cause the development of infections or simply make the patient worse.
The most frequently occurring problems are the followings:
– serious heart troubles, rhythm disorders, untreated high blood pressure
– acute fevered infectious diseases
– malignant tumour diseases
– serious liver and kidney troubles
– disorders of the nervous system, epilepsy
– inflamed skin diseases, crural ulcer
– faecal and urinary incontinence problems
– persons under the influence of alcohol (we do not treat drunk patient)
For bath counselling we stand at your service at any time during the consulting hours of the physician at the spa without referral and registration.
